Global Outreach

Tanzania, East Africa (Singida Region) Global Outreach Project

Iramba Story
The Iramba Plateau is located in the Singida region of Tanzania, East Africa. A leprosy hospital was created in the 1960's as a treatment and housing facility for leprosy patients and their families. Because of the stigma attached to leprosy, the hospital facility was located in a remote area of Tanzania. The village of Nkungi has grown up around the hospital over the years, with a current population of over 7500 people. Dr. Menerad Rwezaura, his wife Mary, and baby Marion

There is no infrastructure in this remote location to support business or industry. The people of the region survive by subsistence agriculture practices. Global warming has caused the weather patterns to change and annual rainfall to decrease. Frequent drought conditions and uneven areas of precipitation have caused widespread hunger and starvation in the region. HIV/AIDS infects large portions of the population. As a result, large numbers of HIV orphans struggle for survival.

Dr. Menerad Rwezaura, his wife, Mary, and baby, Marion (pictured at left) visited our congregation late October 2004 (visit our Photo Gallery for more pictures) and made a personal appeal. Dr. Rwezaura provides free medical care at the hospital and is presently trying to purchase a mobile medical clinic to reach patients in remote areas.

CCRS supports the effort of Outreach, Inc. to assist the orphans, children in need, and the people of the area to have basic nutrition, medical treatment, and a level of education and training which will allow them to enjoy a more secure, self reliant future.

How You Can Help
Outreach Inc. purchases baskets, hand woven by the people of the Singida region. The baskets are sold through churches, service, and private organizations in the United States. The profits are returned to the Singida region for ongoing projects.

For a limited time, these beautifully crafted hand-made baskets are available for purchase at CCRS after the Sunday Celebration Service. Afterwards, they will be available for purchase at the church office.

Contact
Contact Bill Barbour any Sunday after church,  send him an email, or contact the church office at 410-750-8559
